I OFTEN reflect about what it means to be an Aussie as we approach Australia Day, one of the biggest celebrations of the year.
We are supposed to be the lucky country, blessed with so much to be grateful for, a place where people risk their lives to come and live.
But as Australians prepare to celebrate, I feel compelled to point out the deeply worrying trend that underlies our national celebrations.
Statistics provided to me by Victoria Police show that, by a country mile, Australia Day is the most violent of our public holidays.
