Monique Ferrario has been a member of QHVSG since losing her brother Mitchell to homicide on the 9th April 2009. Monique attended the Gold Coast Support Meeting for over two years before accepting the role of South Eastern Regional Team Leader at the end of May 2011, supporting QHVSG members and Paula Starmer, our Senior Family Support Coordinator.
Monique has been running the QHVSG Gold Coast Support Meetings for two years and four months and been extremely active in the role of Team Leader, supporting QHVSG at the last two Gold Coast Awareness Days, and organising fundraisers, selling raffle tickets, canvasing businesses for raffle prizes, and organising fundraiser BBQ’s. Monique works fulltime and with the constant support of her mum, Gai, ensures members who attend the Gold Coast Support Meetings have refreshments, ongoing support and an opportunity to laugh if it helps to keep them going through the difficult times members can experience. Monique actively seeks out members most in need and visits those who are not always able to attend support meetings, also offering to drive others to and from the support meetings if required.
Monique, not only as a member but also a volunteer, represents the strength and backbone of QHVSG: looking to fundraise, organise, support and offer peer support wherever possible. She has a heart of gold and is a team leader in the true sense of the word – Congratulations Monique, you are simply the best! “After Mitch was murdered I didn’t want his death to be in vein and needed something positive and good to come from it. That is why it is so important for me to continue my work with and support of other QHVSG members.”
QHVSG and all of its members would like to thank Monique on her unwavering dedication, compassion and generosity in giving of herself to support others like her, who can sometimes be lost in the aftermath of homicide.
