Our History
QHVSG was founded on the 7th of February 1995 in Northern Queensland when five families united to address the desperate lack of assistance for families who have experienced the loss of a loved one through homicide. During this time before QHVSG was founded, there were no government services or community groups available to assist families or provide them with the essential support needed.
This absence of assistance available resulted in effected families being left isolated during an incredibly vulnerable and painful period of their lives, unable to meet with other families and share their experiences with each other. For over 30 years now, we have been providing both peer support through our member network, and professional case management through our qualified counsellors, who are skilled and experienced in social work, psychology and counselling.
